William Turner was an English romanticist painter who is credited with being a precursor to the French Impressionist movement. His broadly applied atmospheric washes of paint and expressive colourisation earned him the title of 'the painter of light'. This gorgeous piece was inspired by the atmospheric marine skies of the English coast. Deep indigo blues, steely charcoal and silvery greys are glazed over shimmering ivory and soft taupe.
